My name is Jake Speich the Studio Manager at Lake Superior Art Glass.
And we're doing a "design your own candle" event.
Right now, I'm going to be creating a votive that has a feathered pattern.
It's one of the oldest patterns that have been discovered dating back to Egyptian pottery.
We'll roll and cool that as well and get a small bubble started.
[sharp blowing] The first color you go in to you always pick up a little bit more than the second and that yellow's not going to look yellow until it fully cools down.
[snip] Okay.
So the first step to doing this feathered pattern is to generate a spiral.
And we got it nice and toasty.
I'm gonna hustle, so I use the heat while I got it.
So I'll go back to that paper to press it back into the shape I'm after.
And I'll bring the bubble back [sharp blowing] and I'll really go back to that jackline constriction.
Glass does not like to be in sharp angles because it's a fluid at this temperature.
That's why we have the mold there.
It gives us that nice straight-walled contour of the flat base.
Okay, I'll squeeze where I want it to release.
Give it a little vibration.
So it's pretty much there.
I think I'll just get it that final heat and open it up, see how close we can get it.
And as I said, that yellow will really pop as this piece cools down.
Final step is we'll add a tiny droplet of water and a little tap separates just like that.
Thanks for tuning in.
